Hidden Trunk Fridge — Model Y 2020 to 2026

A real fridge in the trunk wall. Zero space lost.

Warm water at the trailhead, melted ice in a cooler bag, a sub-trunk box you have to lift out for luggage. The Glacier fixes all three: a 16-litre compressor fridge that lives in the empty side cavity and closes flush with the trunk lining. Pick your model year below: one version for 2020–2024 cars, one for the 2025–2026 Juniper.

Camping, school runs, the weekly shop. Closed, it reads as factory trim. Open, it's a proper fridge at −6 °C.

Built for the trunk Tesla gave you

01

A compressor, not a cooler

Peltier coolers only manage 15–20 °C below ambient, which is a warm drink on a hot day. The Glacier runs a real compressor and pulls down to −6 °C, then holds it while the car sits in the sun.

02

Hidden in the side wall

It drops into the empty cavity behind the left wheel arch and closes with a factory-style panel. The trunk floor, sub-trunk and folding seats are exactly as Tesla built them.

03

16 litres, organised

Sixteen litres behind a drawer front: 20 cans, or ten 500 ml bottles, or four 750 ml wine bottles, plus room for snacks. A coated wire rack keeps everything off the floor and lifts out for cleaning.

04

Three modes, one control

LO mode runs the compressor flat out for a fast pull-down, Refrigeration holds any point from −6 °C to 20 °C, and ECO mode drops the draw for overnight and camping. Set from the illuminated dial on the 2025–2026 unit or the touch display on the 2020–2024 unit.

05

Protects your 12 V

Low-voltage protection watches the car's 12 V supply and shuts the fridge down before it can leave you with a flat battery. It draws about 0.5 kWh over 24 hours.

06

Reversible in 20 minutes

Lift out the side cover, seat the fridge, plug the lead into the trunk power point, clip the panel on. No drilling, no cutting, no splicing into the car's harness.

Compressor cooling

From trunk temperature to −6 °C. Then it holds.

Most "car fridges" are Peltier coolers. They can only pull 15–20 degrees below the air around them, so on a summer day your drinks sit at 20 °C. The Glacier runs a real compressor, the same principle as your kitchen fridge, and reaches −6 °C whatever the trunk is doing.

Where it lives

It uses the space Tesla left empty.

Behind the left trunk trim panel there is a hollow the size of a carry-on. Tesla covers it with plastic. The Glacier fills it with a 16-litre fridge and replaces the plastic with a textured panel, brushed grille and illuminated dial, so it reads as factory equipment.

Drag the slider to see it closed and open.

Battery protection

It will never leave you with a flat 12 V.

The fridge watches the car's 12 V supply. If voltage drops toward the cut-off, it shuts itself down before the car's own systems are at risk, and restarts when the car wakes. Over a full day of running it uses about 0.5 kWh, a fraction of a percent of the pack.

Installation

Fitted in about 20 minutes, no tools

Four steps, nothing drilled or cut, fully reversible. The only patience it asks for is two hours standing upright before the first power-on.

  1. 1

Let it stand for two hours

Compressor fridges can be shipped on their side. Stand the unit upright for two hours before the first power-on so the compressor oil settles.

    2 hours, unattended
  2. 2

Remove the left trunk side cover

The factory trim panel behind the left wheel arch unclips by hand. Keep it; refitting it later takes a minute.

    3 minutes
  3. 3

Seat the fridge and connect power

Slide the unit into the cavity until the front panel sits flush with the trunk lining, then plug the lead into the trunk 12 V point.

    10 minutes
  4. 4

Clip the panel and power on

Press and hold the control for three seconds to power on. Select LO mode and you'll have cold cans in about 30 minutes.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Which Model Y does it fit?

Pick by model year. 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 or 2024 Model Y: choose the first option. 2025 or 2026 Model Y (the new Juniper shape): choose the second. They are different units built for each car's own side-well and are not interchangeable. Both are for five-seat cars and use the left trunk side cavity. Neither fits the seven-seat Model Y. Your build date is on the sticker inside the driver's door.

Will it drain the battery?

No. The fridge draws roughly 0.5 kWh over a full day, a fraction of a percent of the pack. It runs from the car's 12 V system, and its low-voltage protection cuts power to the fridge well before the 12 V battery is at risk. With the car in Camp Mode it runs indefinitely.

Does it run when the car is parked and off?

The trunk 12 V point stays live while the car is awake. For overnight cooling with the car parked, use Camp Mode or Keep Climate On, exactly as you would for the cabin. ECO Sleep mode is designed for this.

How loud is it?

About 28 dB at full compressor speed, which is quieter than the car's own cabin fan on low. In ECO mode it is close to silent.

Do I lose any trunk space?

None on the floor. It occupies the hollow side cavity that is normally hidden behind the trim panel. The trunk floor, the sub-trunk well and the fold-flat seats are unchanged, and your trunk mat still fits.

Can I take it out again?

Yes. Unplug the lead, lift the unit out and refit the original trim panel. Nothing is drilled, glued or cut, so the car goes back to exactly how it was.

Shipping and returns?
